First Quarter 2012 NEWS


HRSA Administrator Mary K. Wakefield addressed the annual meeting of the National Association of Community Health Centers on March 23rd.  During her speech she singled out our Palmetto Health Council project in Palmetto Georgia.  You can read the entire speech here http://www.hrsa.gov/about/news/speeches/2012/120323nachc.html It is always nice to get national attention focused on one of our our project.

Also this first Quarter we completed a new billing office (14,000 square feet) for Fresenius Medical Care, a national provider of Dialysis services.  We teamed up with Ecker Construction Company to deliver the facility in less than 2 months.

Georgia Eye Physicians and Surgeons in Duluth Georgia has retained JKG Collaborative to design their new 4,200 square foot office across from Gwinnett Medical Center.  We expect the facility will be completed in August of 2012.  Thanks to Dr. Richard Carlin of CarlinVision for the kind referral.

Palmetto Health Council - Ribbon Cutting News


On December 16th, Palmetto Health Council held its Grand Opening Ceremony at its new 3 story, 21,000 square foot facility in Palmetto, Georgia.  The new facility provides new office and clinical space for the Community Health Center. The ceremony was highlighted by Dr. Mary K. Wakefield, Ph.D.,RN, HRSA Administrator.  Dr. Wakefield represented the Obama administration and congratulated PHC on completing the facility, on time and on budget.

USGBC  Tour of Palmetto Health Council - December 19, 2011


The local chapter of the US Green Building Council is sponsoring a tour of the Palmetto Health Council facility in Palmetto Georgia on December 19, 2011 between 6 and 7:30 PM.  Jeff will be on hand to discuss the various sustainable and green building features of the new facility, including the geo-thermal heating and cooling system, lower energy use projections, innovative storm water management and use of natural light.

PALMETTO HEALTH COUNCIL CONSTRUCTION WELL ALONG


Choate construction is making excellent progress on the new LEED Gold facility in Plametto, Georgia. Projected to open in December of this year the facility will be one of only a few LEED Gold healthcare projects in the Southeast and unique among Community Health Centers.  The warm and dry summer has allowed Choate to push the schedule with only a few weather delays.  Work progressing in the photo above includes geo-thermal well drilling, roofing, curtainwall and roadway improvements.  JKG Collaborative is providing planning, architecture, interior design and LEED services.

FAMILY EYE CARE CENTER OF ATLANTA OPENS IN BUCKHEAD

Dr. Takeia Locke has opened a new Optometry practice in Buckhead.  The new facility designed by JKG Collaborative provides an open and modern office for full service optometry.  Dr. Locke specializes in vision therapy and Optometry.  Her state of the art facility features computerized vision examination and a full selection of optical and contact lenses.

RENUE PLASTIC SURGERY OPENS IN WAYCROSS GEORGIA


The new Waycross, Georgia office for Renue Plastic Surgery opened this spring in Waycross.  The 7,300 square foot facility provides new office and surgery space for Renue Plastic Surgery.  The modern light filled facility stands features an energy efficient design using high performance glass and building envelope design.  The flexible clinical office design allows the staff and Renue Plastic Surgery to serve their clients in an open yet private setting.

Located on Tebeau Street directly across from Ware County Hospital the new office is easy to find.  The building features a large barrel vaulted roof design that recalls the railroading history of the city.

JKG Collaborative provided programming, design, and architectural services for the project. Construction provided by BurrSon Construction of Atlanta.

PALMETTO HEALTH COUNCIL PROJECTS CITED BY THE WHITE HOUSE AS 49th OUT OF 100 PROJECTS THAT ARE CHANGING AMERICA

JKG Collaborative's work for the Palmetto Health Council was highlighted in Vice President Joe Biden's report titled "100 Recovery Act Projects That Are Changing America." The report focuses on innovative projects that received partial funding from the Federal Recovery Act while creating sustainable economic growth and job creation.

The report cites that Palmetto Health Council's three delivery locations has already created 19 jobs and will offer healthcare services to 2,065 underserved and uninsured patients of central Georgia including the first pharmacy and dental facility.

PHC's new primary care facility was also mentioned for its employment of local labor and materials as well as hiring three additional medical employees and serving 3,800 patients. It is also designed to achieve LEED ® Gold certification through innovative storm water management, vegetated roofs, solar energy, abundant natural light and geo thermal energy. Construction is planned for completion in August 2011.

JEFF GRIFFIN, AIA, LEED AP, SPEAKS TO EMORY UNIVERSITY GRADUATE STUDENTS OF THE ROLLINS SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH


Jeff Griffin, AIA, LEED AP, of JKG Collaborative spoke to Emory University graduate students from the Rollins School of Public Health, hosted by Southface Energy Institute (Atlanta's sustainability non-profit organization that promotes energy, water and resource efficient workplaces).

Jeff presented how to determine the space and staffing needs for out patient medical facilities, based on a productivity and patient demand model. He also demonstrated how to implement sustainable and green building practices highlighting both short and long term benefits.
